How to Stay Motivated During Times of Stress and Uncertainty

Mar 15, 2021

Life has been up and down especially with all of the uncertainty in the world. So that leaves us with the question of how to keep yourself motivated and not staying in bed all day, even when working from home. During a time like this, it’s nice to set goals for yourself, especially if you have some extra time on your hands.

However, it’s hard to keep focused; I get it. Right now, I’m trying my best to keep healthy and get stronger. Over the last 8 months, I’ve been able to not only get physically healthier but also lift so much more weight than I ever thought I’d be able to a year ago! How did I do this? By keeping myself motivated. Here are some helpful tips on how you can meet your goals too!

Make a Schedule for Yourself

What does that look like? Well, for a lot of people that could mean different things. It could be setting an alarm for when you should wake up and/or get ready for bed at night. I like to set alarms for pretty much everything! Even forgiving myself a little downtime. This usually helps me to stay focused when I’m working because I know that I have a little extra time for myself set aside later on. Whatever it is for you, make sure that you stick by your schedule, as to make it a habit for yourself.

Track the Progress of Goals You Have Set

It’s great to check in with yourself now and then! I started off lockdown with wanting to eat healthier and finally get into shape. So, I’ve been tracking my food and my strength. Now, eight months after having set my goal, I can do a goblet squat with forty-five pounds! Mind you, I started at just five pounds! It’s been fantastic! Every time I feel down or feel like my body isn’t where I want it to be yet, I remember where I was a year ago and how far I have come already. Remember, it’s all about progress!

Tell Your Friends About Your Motivated Goals

It’s easy to make a shortlist of things to do and goals that you would love to accomplish, but the best way to keep yourself accountable is to make sure that you have a team behind your mission! Not only that, but you could also set goals with your team so you can help each other reach them together. No better way to stay on track than to have others help to keep you accountable. I decided to let my partner know that I was not only going to try to get fit but also get stronger. Now, we’re both working on our physical fitness, which has helped us both along this incredibly wild journey.

Look At Your Past Self And See How Far You Have Come

Similar to checking your progress, remember that this is only the beginning of your journey! For me, that often means looking at photos of what my body looked like before I started my journey, or even seeing how much weight I can lift without feeling overworked. Not only has my body changed dramatically, but I’m also noticing how strong I have become in the process! Sometimes seeing how far you’ve come is the best medicine in terms of keeping yourself going until it’s second nature.

Keep these tips in mind and you’ll be where you want to be in no time!
